Tawa Reservoir Dam

Tawa Reservoir is a reservoir on the Tawa River in central India. It is located in Itarsi of Hoshangabad District of Madhya Pradesh state, above Betul district. The reservoir was formed by the construction of the Tawa Dam, which began in 1958 and was completed in 1978.
Satpura Tiger Reserve (STR) also known as Satpura National Park is located in the Hoshangabad district of Madhya Pradesh in India. Its name is derived from the Satpura range. It covers an area of 524 km2 (202 sq mi). Satpura National Park, along with the adjoining Bori and Pachmarhi wildlife sanctuaries, provides 2,200 km2 (850 sq mi) of unique central Indian highland ecosystem. It was set up in 1981.

History

The Tawa reservior was formed when Tawa dam was constructed on the Tawa River. The construction of the dam was completed in around twenty years from the year 1958 to 1978. the construction of this dam resulted in sub merger of around forty four villages.

Attraction

The beautiful Tawa Reservior is the thrid largest reserioir under the Narmada Valley project. It provides irrigaation water to the farming land of the mearby districks.

The aesthetic surroundings of the reservoir has made it very attractve for the tourists. The reservoir falls on the western boundary of the satpura National Park and the Bori Wild life Sancturay. Many visitors come here during monsoon season. The tourism department has also started the cruise boat serivce from reservoir to the Dam.

How to Reach:
By Air

The nearest airport is RajaBhoj Airport in the city of Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh (70 km) from Hoshangabad and (120 km) from Tawa which has daily flight service to Delhi and Mumbai. One can easily get taxi from Bhopal to Tawa.

By Train

The nearest railway stations is Hoshangabad to reach to Tawa. Tawa is 25 km from Hoshangabad railway station.

By Road

Tawa is connected via road through Hoshangabad. Tawa is 25 Km from Hoshnagabad via road.
