Flyboarding

Flyboarding is an extreme water sport in which athletes compete using equipment called flyboards. A flyboard can be best described as a personal water craft fitted with a water jetpack/hoverboard. Flyboards were invented rather recently by a French watercraft rider in the Autumn of 2012, and was introduced to the world during the 2012 jet ski World Championship in China. It quickly became popular among water sport enthusiasts which led the way to a competitive sport to be developed out of it.

In competitions, participants are allotted a fixed duration to perform their routine. Each athlete performs various acrobatic moves as a part of their routine. Points are awarded for each run based on number of moves and the degree of difficulty of the moves.

Since the sport is of recent origin, there is no international governing body for the sport and no standardized set of rules.  The rules for each tournament varies and depends on the organization that conducts the tournament.

Though the sport is currently practiced mostly at a recreational level, there are a few competitive events conducted for the sport. There is also a Flyboard World Championships event conducted for the sport that began in 2012 in Doha, Qatar.

This area of leisure opened up other opportunities for us and we have seen many inventions over the years produced just for fun. These inventions consist of amusement park rides, ski-boarding, sports, and many other activities and devices. If we look at water sports, then we can see inventions such as jet-ski, speed boats, water skiing and many other similar activities. However, there is a much recent invention in the field of water sports that is causing buzz all over the world. This amazing invention is called ‘Flyboard’, and if you still haven’t tried it yet, then you can simply rent a Flyboard at Gull Lake in Brainerd, MN.

What is a Flyboard?

Flyboard is a device that allows the users to levitate above the water using powerful jet propulsion from beneath the board. The water propulsion is powered by PWC (Personal Water Craft). It is otherwise known as a Jet Ski.

Flyboard was invented by French Jet Ski rider, Franky Zapata in 2012. Franky is a water sports enthusiast and an adrenaline junkie who wanted to invent a device that makes the user feel like a superhero. He certainly achieved his vision after inventing the Flyboard, and he definitely made some money as well by selling it all over the world. The best Flyboard that you can buy or rent are manufactured by Zapata, which is a company owned by the inventor himself. The company is also named after him. You can rent a Flyboard at Gull Lake Brainerd, MN, and experience this wonderful invention of the 21stcentury first hand.

How Does It Work?

Flyboard is not an independent device, which means it cannot generate the power itself. Therefore, it needs a powerful device to pair with it. This device will provide a powerful water propulsion that will levitate a human being in the air. The only suitable water device that is able to achieve this feat is PWC (Personal Water Craft) or commonly known as Jet Ski.

PWC shoots out a powerful water jet, which is the only way to move forward. What a Flyboard does is it harnesses this powerful water propulsion from the back of the PWC with the help of a pipe. The pipe leads the rushing water to the nozzles beneath the Flyboard and shoots out the water. Hence, it lifts. This mechanism might sound complicated, but it is incredibly simple and a brilliant idea.

If you are curious enough to witness the mechanism yourself, then you should definitely give it a go. All you have to do is rent a Flyboard at Gull Lake in Brainerd, MN.

How is it Controlled?

Flyboard can be controlled through a remote in the hand of the user who is levitating in the air. However, if the user is a beginner, then it is more likely to be controlled by the instructor sitting on the PWC. Its remote control unit has the settings to adjust the thrust according to the height required by the users. Beginners are usually kept at low altitude due to their lack of experience.

If you want to steer the Flyboard, then you will have to move your feet and legs accordingly. It might look difficult watching someone else do it from far away, but once you step on it yourself, then you can easily get a hang of it. So rent a Flyboard at Gull Lake in Brainerd, MN and learn to control it yourself.

Is it Safe?

If you are worried about safety, then you should just relax as the Flyboard is an absolutely safe device. Many people have used this device to successfully overcome their fear of water, and you can do it too. If you are a beginner, then you will be instructed by the instructors at the site and they will keep an eye on you at all times. You are only allowed to ride the Flyboard by wearing a life jacket if you are a beginner. Even if you do not wear a life jacket, then the Flyboard has got its own buoyancy that doesn’t let it drown and also keeps the human body attached to it. Therefore, you can try the Flyboard without any safety worries at all. Rent a Flyboard at Gull Lake in Brainerd, MN and have some fun in the safest way.

What is Flyboarding?

The flyboard participants stand on a board connected by a 60-foot X Armor hose to a jet ski. Water is forced under pressure to a pair of boots with jet nozzles that the flyboard participant will be wearing. The instructor will be on the jet ski controlling the amount of lift each participant will be given to get out of the water. Some participants can get up to 45 feet in the air. All participants will be wearing a life jacket and our state-of-the-art, two-way communication system, BB Talkin. This allows participants to be in constant contact with the instructor, allowing for an easier first flight.

What is Hoverboarding?

The hoverboard is connected to the jet ski by a 60-foot X Armor hose that propels the water to the jet on the board. The hoverboard is designed like a snowboard and only has one jet on it. Each participant will slide their feet into the board and will balance on the board; the participant can pull the jet ski up to 30 miles per hour. The instructor will be on the jet ski controlling the amount of throttle and speed that the participant will have. All participants will be wearing a life jacket and our state-of-the-art, two-way communication system, BB Talkin. This allows participants to be in constant contact with the instructor for an easier first flight.

What is Jet Packing?

The jet pack allows participants to fly in a seated position and is less dependent on the rider’s balance to fly. The jet pack has two jets that are at shoulder level and the water flows through a 60-foot X Armor hose connected to a jet ski that gives the participant lift out of the water. All participants will be wearing a life jacket and our state-of-the-art, two-way communication system, BB Talkin. This allows participants to be in constant contact with the instructor, allowing for an easier first flight experience.

We Use All the Newest Equipment on the Market

2 The Sky Flyboard uses all of the newest state-of-the-art equipment from Zapata Racing; the inventors of Hydroflight. We use the ProSeries flyboard which offers participants the same maneuverability as the professional flyboarders. The breakaway board allows participants the ability to turn and do spins in the air with ease.

We also use a water sports communication system called BB Talkin. This communication system allows participants the ability to talk with the instructor on the jet ski (up to half a mile away) as if they were right next to each other. This gives the participant the advantage to know which direction to go in when flying to allow for an easier flight.

Is Hydroflight Difficult to Learn?

No, not at all! The average participant will take about five minutes to get acclimated to the board and be able to get out of the water. Balance is the key to success and keeping a good balance and staying flat-footed help make the process easier to conquer. The participant in the boots controls with their feet the direction in which the jet ski goes; so stay close and listen to all verbal directions from your instructor. As you become more balanced, your instructor will give you more throttle which will lift you higher out of the water. So are you ready to see how high you can fly?!? Book your flight today!
